CSC - Safety in Freefall Course
The CSC is the qualification that enables safe group freefall according to FWCP guidelines.
Prerequisites
- Have successfully completed AFF training.
- Have at least 5 solo jumps post-AFF at the time of the first CSC jump.
- Have at least 25 jumps for final certification (authorizes multi-person jumps without a CSC instructor).
Progress alternates CSC jumps and solo jumps to reinforce skills and avoid acquiring bad habits.
Preamble
- Minimum 6 jumps to obtain the qualification (more if necessary to meet safety objectives).
- Objectives were already addressed during AFF; repetition is beneficial.
- The described progression is an example that can be adapted by the instructor, as long as objectives are met.
- Each jump includes a briefing, a video, a debrief, and a progression log.
- During the debrief, let the student explain their jump.
- Encourage additional VR/RW jumps to strengthen technique (useful for Freefly, Track, Wingsuit…).
Course objectives
Check your equipment before the jump.
Be ready and controlled at boarding.
Perform final checks in the aircraft before exit.
Ensure your safety and that of others in freefall.
Ensure your safety and that of others under canopy.
Teaching methods
- 6 filmed jumps minimum:
- 4 jumps with only the CSC instructor,
- 2 jumps with a 3rd person already holding the CSC (not necessarily an instructor).
- Definition of objectives for each jump.
- Detailed briefing before the jump.
- Debrief using video after the jump.
- Work instructions for the next jump.
Progression program (6 jumps)
Block 1 - Technical consolidation (Jumps 1 to 4)
Four progressive jumps supervised by the CSC instructor to validate fundamentals: approach, level management, docking, altitude awareness, break and track.
- Unlinked exit, instructor diver - student floater (positions chosen by the student).
- Instructor compensates slightly (forward-back-up-down).
- Altimeter reading between each figure/move (altitude awareness at all times).
- Break called by the student.
- Track followed and/or filmed.
Block 2 - Group scenarios (Jumps 5 and 6)
Two VR3 (3-way) to place the candidate in a group configuration: CSC instructor + student + 1 skydiver already CSC. Objectives: stress management, grip stability, priority ‘levels → distance → docking’, altitude awareness, break/track, landing pattern and traffic awareness.
- Linked exits on both jumps.
- Student is placed at least once inside and once outside the aircraft.
- Instructor provides: briefing, exit setup/positions, strategy in case of failure, figures to perform and break altitude.
- Debrief: ask for each participant’s feedback.
- On the last jump, the student may propose the freefall plan (if validated by the CSC instructor).
